Happy to announce that, after some follow up (by ByLandAndSea, our supporters and the ferry companies), Transport for Wales have returned the Rail Sail ticketing option via Holyhead Dublin starting from Britain. The Rail-Sail-starting-from-Britain option had been suspended by Transport for Wales in September 2025 for reasons which were not clear (see our previous post).
An email from Transport for Wales to ByLandAndSea 3rd November 2025 states “I can confirm that as of the 31st October that the SailRail product between Holyhead and Dublin are back on sale.”
The Transport for Wales web page which had previously announced the suspension in September, on 3rd November removed that announcement, and reverted to information about how to book Rail and Sail from Britain.
Thanks to all the Rail-Sail-ers who brought this issue to light and raised it with Transport for Wales to get it resolved. Please do let us know at ByLandAndSea if you continue to experience any problems with Rail Sail, or other land-and-sea services, so we can use our people power to resolve them! See our campaigns page for more ideas on working together to improve the alternatives to flying when traveling to and from Ireland.
